Thailand is an ideal family travel destination, with fantastic beaches, beautiful scenery, fascinating temples, affordable food and accommodation and plenty of warmth and friendliness from the locals. The Thai people adore children and they are known for being welcoming to young visitors.
To help you plan your family trip to Thailand, here are some ideas of what you can do at three of the hottest Thai destinations – Phuket, Krabi and Koh Phi Phi.
Things to Do With Kids in Phuket
Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and is known for its many beautiful beaches. Take the little ones to the Aquarium at Cape Panwa, where they can see exotic and colourful sea creatures up close and personal. Another popular attraction is the Splash Jungle Water Park, which is located next to the airport at Mai Khao Beach. Check out the Patong Go-kart Speedway, which allows your adrenaline junkie child to practice their driving skills by zooming around a challenging racing track.
Children also enjoy the Phuket Butterfly Farm, where they can see hundreds of fluttering colourful insects and learn about the life cycle of the butterfly. Also, don’t miss the Dino Park mini golf course, which is a fun family day activity with a prehistoric theme.
Things to Do With Kids in Krabi
Krabi has miles of beautiful beaches, lush green jungles and great rock climbing, making it an ideal family destination for nature lovers. Head to Thung Teao Forest Natural Park and go for a trek with your little ones, revealing to them the diverse beauty of this part of the world.
There is also a great outdoor aquarium at the Coastal Resource Management Unit where endangered species are bred in protected saltwater lakes. Your little ones will love the “Nemo” tanks, which are filled with bright orange clownfish. Also, make sure that you check out the Shell Cemetery, where you can explore a 200 metre stretch of shoreline that contains the fossils of millions of seashells and sea creatures.
Things to Do With Kids in Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi is an archipelago of 6 islands and it is one of the most beautiful yet easily accessible island groups in the world. It has something to offer for everyone, from the partygoer to the sun worshipper to the extreme sports enthusiast.
When you visit with your kids, take a boat trip to peaceful Maya Bay (where the Leonardo DiCaprio film “The Beach” was filmed). You can also hike up to the viewpoint on the island of Koh Phi Phi Don and admire the incredible view over the turquoise water and lush green islands. Also, have your dinner at one of the restaurants that hosts a fire show so that you can watch talented performers doing tricks with flaming poi.
These are just a few of the family friendly activities you can enjoy in these popular Thai destinations. Have you visited Thailand with your kids? Let us know about your experiences in the comments.
